About the Owner

My name is Sarah Thornton and I'm the director of Back Room SAM. I live in the heart of beautiful Lancaster city.

Originally from Wigan in Lancashire, I came to Lancaster to earn my degree in Marketing and Advertising at Lancaster University Management School. I quickly fell in love with the city, and, unlike many of my peers who headed for the South upon graduating, my dream was to stay in Lancaster, make it my home and find ways to use my skills and gifts to the benefit and value of the fellow business folk in my community.

When I was 24 years old, I left my job as a designer at a website agency to start my own business. (Yep, that means in 2011 my job title jumped straight from 'Junior Designer' to 'CEO' - pretty great shortcut if you ask me!) It was a real learning experience full of daily challenges, but it wasn't long before I had a tiny but thriving one-woman business going.

My experience in web services, advertising, PR and graphic design, alongside my love for Lancaster and local business is what led to my desire to make business services more easily available to other local businesses; personal and friendly support that's flexible for them, and at an affordable price.

As a young and vibrant entrepreneur, I love getting to know people (funny quirks and all), and believe a vital part of my job is taking the time to get to know your business, so I can really get on board with your vision and what you are doing. Being conscientious and possessing a certain creative flare, I thrive off being efficient and organised and actually adore solving problems. So don't be afraid of using and stretching me to help take your business forward... seriously.
